Williams College - Williamstown, MA
For generations Williams College had maintained lodging to service the campus community and in recent years, was exploring how the inn could better meet the college’s needs. We saw an opportunity to relocate the Inn from the outskirts of town to the central commercial district in support of the College’s commitment to help reinvigorate Williamstown’s main street, creating a destination hotel to serve the entire community and draw tourists.
The hotel is configured as three sections with distinct, but complementary, architectural detailing using stone and barn-wood siding: the ‘main house’ features reception and guest rooms; the ‘bunkhouse’ features event space and guest rooms; and the ‘barn’ with the restaurant and bar. Guests approach the Inn across a stone curved bridge and may assume that it’s existed for centuries in its new idyllic setting.
