Hanover, NH
Welcoming guests since 1760 is a heady provenance. Hanover Inn had been updated and expanded over the years to meet the needs of its steward, Dartmouth College. Most recently, the College’s needs involved modernizing the guest rooms, adding a new conference center and reestablishing the Inn as the campus’ front door.
As an historic property steeped in tradition, the new design is respectful but not constrained by that history. The conference center addition is a thoughtfully integrated glass pavilion that also serves as a connection between the Inn and the Hopkins Center for the Arts. The front of the Inn is expanded to accommodate a new reception lobby, restaurant, event space and additional guest rooms. The iconic front porch facing the town green now wraps the full length of the building and provides a prominent welcome to the campus and community. The interiors are a modern nod to the classics, using local granite and hardwoods and accented in Dartmouth green, of course.

The Inn is Dartmouth’s ‘front door.’ It is often the first place that prospective faculty, students and parents, and visitors see, and where their first impressions of the College are formed. For alumni and others, the re-envisioned Inn will also continue to be an important destination welcoming them back to Dartmouth.”
