Cambridge, MA
A long defunct railway and trolley yard occupied a prime location between Harvard Square and the Charles River. After a protracted development process and years exploring options, Charles Square transformed a once derelict area into a vibrant destination. The development features The Charles Hotel, luxury residences, restaurants, class A office space and landscaped parks and plazas.
Once the site was cleared of the century-old rail yard and car barns, the development’s design took care to reconnect the Square to the River using appropriate scale and materials. The stepped massing and brick masonry complement the existing historic neighborhood and respectfully blends with the river frontage while providing enviable views from the property.
As the development’s original architects, we have worked on renovations, redesigns and upgrades over the years including lobby and guest room renovations, a luxury day spa, a new conference center and office suites. The interiors have always evoked a modern reflection of the neighborhood’s academic provenance.
