Bowdoin College - Brunswick, ME
When Bowdoin College needed to renovate and update its athletic facilities, we transformed the staid brick gymnasium building by incorporating a glass-encased addition that expanded the college’s fitness program, relocated the athletic department offices and added an infirmary and health services center. The facility’s design was a deliberate move away from the campus’ traditional collegiate architecture.
The new building connects the student union with the original gymnasium, which was also renovated and integrated as part of the project. Its glass-clad exterior reflects the surrounding woods during the day and illuminates the evenings with activity. The four-story building has the latest fitness equipment on the ground and first floors; athletic department offices are on the second floor; and the college’s health services department and infirmary share the top floor with multi-purpose rooms and yoga studios. A multi-story ‘Maine-granite’ rock wall climbs between the fitness floors.

The new Peter Buck Center for Health and Fitness is a wonderful addition to the Bowdoin campus and a place where every member of our community can pursue and realize their health and wellness goals.
