The Project

The residential portion of the successful mixed-use Charles Square development overlooks John F. Kennedy Memorial Park on the Charles River. The luxury condominiums in six brick towers that are scaled to the surrounding Harvard Square urbanscape, offer views of the river and the vibrant courtyard that is shared with complex’s hotel, restaurants and health spa. Designed for convenience and privacy, each tower is limited to two units per floor, with semi-private elevator lobbies, thus receiving sunlight and providing views on three sides.

The Approach

Conceived as a nod to the famed Harvard Yard, the intimate scale and proportion of open space to built form are fashioned after the residential courtyards of Harvard University’s undergraduate ‘House system’.  The use of water struck red brick contrasting with white accents, playful architectural forms and lush, landscaped interior gardens has proven to be a timeless design.

The Result

Because the layout staggers the towers on the site, the units are unique in offering front-to-back through-views, a design concept that also limits adjacency to a single neighboring unit. Ranging from 1-bedroom flats to 3-bedroom duplex penthouse units, the wide diversity of unit type offers a variety of living options. CambridgeSeven also provided custom interior design services for several units, each a unique reflection of the individual owner while highlighting the light and views that all the units enjoy.
