Lisbon, Portugal
As the centerpiece of a Lisbon-based World Exposition themed “The Oceans, a Heritage for the Future,” the Oceanário is dedicated to the Expo’s theme of preserving the Earth’s oceans as a resource for future generations. Promoting the idea that all of the world’s oceans are a single system, the architecture and exhibit design is organized around a vast 1.22 million gallon central tank and a series of coastal habitats representing portions of the North Atlantic, the Antarctic, the Pacific and the Indian Oceans.
