Central Heating Plant

University of Massachusetts - Amherst, MA

Typically, central heating plants are comprised of multiple enclosed facilities with large outlying equipment. With a prominent location on campus, the Central Heating Plant (CHP) at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst was designed as an entire complex under one roof with a unifying structural framework. A large, curtainwall facade allows for expansive views of the campus while oil deliveries and services are performed out of sight on the opposite side of the building. Highly designed lighting and structural elements make for a functional and sculptural campus facility building.
