MBTA Red Line – Porter Square Station

Cambridge, MA

Porter Square Station serves subway and commuter rail, along with street-level bus lines and when it opened as part of a significant Red Line extension, was described by architecture critic Robert Campbell as “visual poetry.” Capped by a glass-wrapped, street-level entrance, the station is constructed in bedrock 105 feet below street level, and features public art and a lively, skylit mezzanine that breaks the long descent to the subway platform.
